Hamburg and Kiel fight for German Super Cup

More than 10 000 spectators will attend the match for the first German title of this season. The German champion and cup winner THW Kiel will meet HSV Hamburg (loser of the cup final) for the German Super Cup on Saturday.

“We have a great team, and we want to confront Kiel not only in this match,” Hamburg coach Martin Schwalb said.

His team will play for the Super Cup for the third time and won the title twice. It will be Kiel’s 11th appearance and they won four times – including last year’s 41:31 victory against the Rhein Neckar Löwen.

While Hamburg hope to play with full squad, Kiel have injury problems. World handball player of the year Nikola Karabatic returned with from the Olympics elbow problems.

Three French new Olympic champions will play on Saturday – only six days after the Olympic final against Iceland: Bertrand and Guillaume Gille (Hamburg) and Thierry Omeyer (Kiel).
