Boquist stays in Copenhagen

Swedish international Martin Boquist has extended his contract with Danish champions FCK Håndbold. The contract of the player is now valid until 30 June 2010. Originally his contract with the Copenhagen-based club was to expire next summer.

Boquist in the Swedish national team“My ambition and the club’s ambition has always been the same: we want to stay on top in Denmark and get as far in the Champions League as possible. Our hard work has been rewarded so far and I’m looking forward to continue this development and reach even greater results with the club,” the 31-year old Boquist said on signing the extended contract.

Boquist joined FC København in the summer of 2005 after three years with THW Kiel. Before that he played for Swedish champions Redbergslied and reached the quarterfinal of the EHF Champions League in the 2001/02 season.

Another Swede was also happy with the signing. Head coach Magnus Andersson also has a past in Kiel and said:

“There is no doubt that Martin is an important member of our team and I’m extremely happy that he decided to stay in Copenhagen. He will be an essential for our development. No doubt that Boquist will be one of the strongest players in Denmark.”

So far Martin Boquist played 87 league matches for FCK and scored 487 goals. He is expected to be one of FCK´s key players in the upcoming Champions League group stage as well as in Sweden’s qualification matches for the EURO 2010.
