German talent dies on court

The European Handball Federation was informed about the shocking loss of a young and talented handballer, Sebastian Faißt.

The German U21 national player collapsed suddenly in the 34th minute of a national game in Switzerland on 3 March 2009. The player received immediate treatment by the team doctor, but his life could not be saved.

The cause of the death is still unclear; it is assumed that Faißt suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.

Sebastian Faißt was one of the most talented players in Germany. He played for Bundesliga team TSV Dormagen and he was a prominent member of the German Junior national team. His biggest success was a silver medal at the 2008 Men’s 20 European Championship where he scored four goals in the final.

Faißt would have been 21 on Saturday.

The European Handball Federation expresses its most sincere condolences to the family, friends and team mates of the player.
