EHF Champions League winner, Viborg HK, also admit to feel the effects of the global financial downturn. The management of the club found it necessary to ask all employees to accept a five percent wage cut. This will mean that the players, who won the Champions League trophy as well as the Danish championship last season, will get paid five percent less respect to what their contracts stipulate. This also applies to the coaching and administrative staff as well as the men´s team of the club.

“We all have to accept reduced wages in order to keep our finances safe. Needless to say, nobody welcomes such a step and obviously some people are sceptical. We will have to work on this in the future. We hope for understanding and for support as everyone wants to keep a good team together,” Viborg HK´s managing director Peter Cassøe told the local Danish radio station DR Midt og Vest.

The wage cut will spare around €150,000-200,000 next season.

There was also good news in the last few days for Viborg. The oil company OK Benzin extended their deal sponsorship with the club.
