EHF top officials meeting in Cyprus
23/24.10.2009

The second largest city of Cyprus, Limassol, will host a series of sport-political events on 23-24 October 2009. The 9th EHF Conference of Presidents and the 10th EHF Extraordinary Congress will be the next major events shaping the future of European handball.

Altogether 47 EHF Member Federations registered for the events in Cyprus, plus Kosovo as associated member. The European Handball Federation will also welcome honorary guests, including representatives from the highest sport authorities of Cyprus, the International Handball Federation and key EHF partners. Over 100 people are expected in Limassol for the various activities related to the EHF and EHF Marketing.

Focus on EHF Marketing

Friday, 23 October 2009, will be a busy day for EHF Marketing GmbH, the marketing arm of the European Handball Federation. The EHFM Advisory Board will be meeting in the morning. The members will receive information on the most important daily matters including TV and marketing contracts, business plans and the sporting highlight FINAL4.

Following this in the afternoon, the 6th EHFM General Assembly will convene. A number of reports will be heard by the Assembly, including the EHFM Managing Director’s report on the 2008/09 Business Year, the report of the Advisory Board and that of the Comptrollers Council. The 2009/10 budget will also be voted upon by the Assembly.

EXEC Meeting

As it has become a tradition over the years, the EHF Conference of Presidents and the Extraordinary Congress will be preceded by an Executive Committee Meeting. Friday evening will be used by the EXEC Members to take the last necessary preparatory measures before the events on Saturday.

9th Conference of Presidents

The first major event on Saturday, 24 October 2009, will be the Conference of Presidents. This event serves as a discussion forum for the exchange of information and opinions on highest sport-political level. Items on the agenda include a report from the President, a summary on the EHF Integrity Programme, an analysis of the new EHF EURO Qualification format and especially an information and discussion process on the subject “European Handball and its stakeholders”.

Qualification draws

The morning will also include three younger age category qualification draws: 2010 M18 ECh in Montenegro, 2010 M20 ECh in Slovakia and W U21 WCh in Korea.

Development programmes

Still in the framework of the morning session, a number of Federations will join important development initiatives (Rinck Convention, SMART Programme and Foster Project). This will be marked by a formal act of signing.

10th EHF Extraordinary Congress

The Congress will begin on Saturday afternoon. Tor Lian, President of the EHF, will be chairing the event, supported by EHF Vice President Jean Brihault.

Among other matters, seven motions will be voted upon by the Member Federations. The Congress is aimed to serve as a discussion and decision making forum for seven motions proposing changes in the statutes and regulations.

In line with the open information strategy of the EHF, www.europhandball.com will be covering the happenings of the Congress. The E-News Service will send out summary and qualification draw results in order to keep you informed of developments in handball on the European continent.
