Both Greek titles defended

Another season is over, and both the men’s as well as the women’s Greek champions managed to defend their titles. The champion’s trophies of the Hellenic Handball Federation stay with the clubs Ormi Loux Patras (women) and PAOK Salonika (men). These two clubs will represent Greece in the next Champions League season.

A 33-33 draw against Filippos Verias secured PAOK’s title one game before the last round, as second placed team Doukas was defeated by AEK Athens. It is the second in consecutive title for the Salonika team who will be awarded the trophy at the last home match against Doukas on Saturday.

PAOK still has another season goal, which is the double. On 29-30 May, parallel to the EHF FINAL4 in Cologne, the final-four of the Greek cup will be carried out in Lamia. The other participants are AEK, who meet PAOK in the first semi-final and Doukas who play against Vrilisia.

Kilkis relegation, Vrilisia in Europe

The biggest disappointment of the season was the eleventh place of GAS Kilkis. The traditionally strong team, who have participated in European Cups for the last 11 years, have been relegated to the second division together with the bottom team and Challenge Cup team Thermaikos.

Vrilisia stood for the biggest surprise. By defeating Zafeirakis Naousas the team of Theodoros Ginis secured a ticket for European Cups.

Ormi Loux champions for the fourth time

Ormi Loux are the new dynasty in Greek women’s handball. The Patras team defeated Nea Ionia 2-0 in the Play-Off finals. They succeeded with not only the fourth consecutive national title but also the second double in a row.

The final standing in the Greek women’s handball league was:
1. Ormi Loux Patras (Champions League)
2. Nea Ionia (Cup Winner’s cup)
3. Anagennisi Artas (EHF cup)
4. Arion Ptolemaida (Challenge Cup)
5. Aris Salonika (Challenge Cup)
