2011 Women's Handball World Championship, Qualification Europe, is drawn on 27 July 2010.
 

Women's World Championship Qualification Draw

The 2011 Women's Handball World Championship will be carried out from 3 to 18 December 2011 in Brazil. The groups for the European Qualification Tournaments will be drawn on 27 July 2010 at 11:00 hrs in Vienna at the occasion of the draw of the European Cups.

Final Tournament participants

A total of 24 teams will compete in Brazil. Besides Russia as defending champions and Brazil as host nation, Asia with 4 teams and Africa as well as Pan America with 3 teams each will match up with 11 European teams (excluding Russia).

From these 11 places, three are reserved for the best three teams at the EHF EURO 2010 (7 - 19 December) in Denmark and Norway. 29 European teams will play for the remaining 8 places.

Modus for Qualification Europe

Phase 1 – QUALIFICATION ROUND

The qualification round will be played in four groups (3 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 5 teams) in the format of tournaments at one venue during the week 30 November to 5 December 2010 among the following 17 national teams:

Bulgaria
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Finland
Great Britain
Greece
Italy
Lithuania
FYR Macedonia
Poland
Portugal
Switzerland
Slovakia
Turkey

The ranking list is based on the results of the 2010 EHF EURO Qualification. The winner of each of the four groups qualifies for the next phase, the play-off matches.

Phase 2 – PLAY-OFF MATCHES

From the 16 teams at the EHF EURO 2010 in Denmark and Norway, Russia as current World Championship titleholder and the three best placed teams are directly qualified for Brazil. The remaining 12 EHF EURO 2010 teams qualify directly for the play-off matches, including 12 of the following 15 national teams:

Serbia
Sweden
Ukraine

The play-off matches will be played on 4/5 June and 11/12 June 2011. The play-off opponents will be drawn on 19 December 2010 in Herning, Denmark at the occasion of the final day of the EHF EURO 2010.

Pots for the draw

The ranking list is based on the results of the 2010 EHF EURO Qualification.

The seven teams ranking at 3rd place in the 2010 EHF EURO Qualification (Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Turkey) are in Pot 1.

The seven teams ranking at 4th place in the 2010 EHF EURO Qualification (Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal) are in Pot 2.

Finland, who played in the 2010 EHF EURO Pre-Qualification are in Pot 3, Bulgaria and Cyprus that did not participate in the 2010 EHF EURO Pre-Qualification and Qualification are in Pot 4.

Draw procedure for Qualification Europe

1. Seven teams of pot 1 are drawn one by one to row 1 (Gr. 1-4) and to row 2 (Gr. 1-3)
2. Seven teams of pot 2 are drawn one by one to row 2 (Gr.4), to row 3 (Gr. 1-4) and to row 4 (Gr. 1 and 2)
3. One team of pot 3 is drawn to row 4 (Gr. 3)
4. Two teams of pot 4 are drawn to row 4 (Gr. 4) and to row 5 (Gr. 1)
5. Draw of the order of the right to organise a tournament
