«Go back »Print Version

Croatia, Serbia, Spain and Slovenia top the tables across the four groups.

2010 Men’s 18 European Championship

The concluding event on the European handball calendar got off to a fantastic start in the cities of Podgorica and Niksic yesterday.

The matches of groups A and B, where the team are competing in the Sportski Centar Moraca in Podgorica, have seen the nations of Croatia, Sweden, Serbia and Denmark get off to a great start with all teams winning their opening matches.

The host nation Montenegro, drawn into group C, suffered defeat in their first game of the competition at the hands of the current title holder, Germany. In a very close match, Montenegro, conceded three goals too many. Group C companions, Portugal faired no better against Spain. At the end of the first day, Germany and Spain top the Group C table.

The national team of Slovenia sits at the top of Group D at the end of Day 1 after a clear 34:31 victory over Iceland. The players from Switzerland could only manage a draw against an equally matched Czech Republic.

In the matches that resume today, each team will play a round-robin system within their group with the top 2 teams advancing to the Main Round (playing for the places 1 to 8), and the third and fourth placed teams meeting in the Intermediate Round (playing for the places 9 to 16). Find more information on the official event website: http://www.handball-euro2010.me.

In the last edition of the event, held in Brno, Czech Republic in summer 2008, Germany clinched the gold medal after defeating Denmark 31:27 in the final game. Below you can find the names of the Gold Medal Winners since this competition is held under the title Men’s 18
