New old coach for Celje

After Zvonimir "Noka" Serdarušić resigned as Celje Pivovana Laško coach last week, the name of the new coach has been revealed. Miro Požun will take over the team. He is well known to the team, with him on the bench Celje won the EHF Champions League in 2004.

The new coach Miro Požun took over the team today and will already lead the evening training session. The 67 year old Slovenian top coach has signed a contract that lasts until the end of the season.

It is the third time for Miro Požun to become Celje coach, after the season 1994/95 and the years between 2002 and 2006. He took them to their big success in the season 2003/04, when they climbed the European throne after defeating SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the EHF Champions League final. Besides that he also won five Slovenian titles and three Slovenian cups.

"I just have to say that my feelings are a bit confused at the moment. I was living a completely different life, planning other things until the end of this year. But I affirmed the wish of the club’s management. Celje is my club, I accomplished my biggest success with Celje, so I feel an obligation. Therefore I hope we will be successful together once again," Miro Požun said after signing the contract.

His first official match will be on Wednesday when Celje are playing a Slovenian league match against the leaders Gorenje. So far, Celje have lost only twice and are ranked third.
