Handball test for the London 2012 Olympic Games

27 June 2011 marked one year to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, that will be carried out between 27 July and 12 August 2012.

But handball fans in the UK can experience what lies in store with a Women’s International Invitational event, which will also be the official London 2012 Test Event for handball, due to take place at the Olympic Handball Arena from Wednesday 23 November to Sunday 27 November.

Olympic Handball Schedule

Handball at London 2012 runs for the duration of the Games, starting on Saturday 28 July with six women’s preliminary matches at the award-winning Handball Arena in the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. The men start their competition on the following day, Sunday 29 July.

The women and men then alternate playing days with three sessions each day (09:30 - 12:45, 14:30 - 17:45 and 19:30 - 22:45) of two Preliminary Round matches up to and including Monday 6 August 2012.

The quarter-finals for women then take place on Tuesday 7 August, the final time the Handball Arena will be used for handball, as from Wednesday 8 August, handball moves to the Basketball Arena, starting with the quarter-finals for men.

The Women’s semi-finals then take place on the evening of Thursday 9 August, with the Men’s semi-finals being played the next evening, Friday 10 August.

Saturday 11 August will see the Women’s Bronze Medal match take place, followed at 20:30 by the Women’s Gold Medal match and victory ceremony.

Handball at London 2012 will then wrap up with the Men’s Bronze Medal match taking place on Sunday 12 August at 11:00 and the Gold Medal match and Victory Ceremony starting at 15:00 ahead of the full London 2012 Closing Ceremony in the evening.
