International journalists meet with AIPS President

The International Sports Journalists Association (AIPS) held a meeting during the 20th Anniversary of the EHF in Vienna attended by the President of AIPS, Gianni Merlo.

Merlo, who had earlier been an expert panel member at the ‘Media Matters’ workshop, met with seven members of the AIPS Handball Commission including its chairman, Günter Pfeistlinger.

Ahead the start of the meeting, Merlo presented the EHF President, Tor Lian, and EHF Secretary General, Michael Wiederer with a gift to commemorate the 20 years of the EHF.

Both Tor Lian and Gianni Merlo then signed a continuation of the AIPS – EHF cooperation agreement, which will see the EHF attend the AIPS Congress in Innsbruck in January 2012. At this event the EHF will make a presentation to the world’s most important sports journalists before the start of the Youth Olympic Games.

Commenting of the EHF’s relationship to the media, Tor Lian said: “The media are vitally important to the success of handball and we are extremely happy to have such a close and positive relationship not just with AIPS but with handball journalists across Europe.”

Gianni Merlo, said: “Europe is the heart of the international game of handball, and for this reason I am extremely happy to be able that we are continuing and further developing our cooperation with the EHF.”

The AIPS Commission meeting discussed further cooperation possibilities between the AIPS and EHF in the future.
