Stanca Božović: "Exciting second leg expected!"

Handball legend Stanca Božović dominated the handball courts in the 1990's and won the EHF Women's Champions League seven times. The Podgorica-born former right-back played in her golden years for Hypo Niederösterreich, Budućnost Podgorica and Belinka Olimp. Ljubljana.

These days Božović lives in Austria and still follows handball of the highest level. She talked to ehfCL.com about the first-leg tie of the final, her favourites in the return tie, and the atmosphere in Podgorica's Morača Sports Centre.

ehfCL.com: What did you think of the first leg of the EHF Women's Champions League Final?

Stanca Božović: It was a great final! Both teams deserved to be there, as they play the most outstanding handball of recent times. It will be very exciting in the return match.

ehfCL.com: Which team are you cheering for in the final?

Stanca Božović: Having been a Budućnost player, I´ll support the Montenegrins, although I totally admire the game plan of the Hungarians and I’m good friends with their right winger Jovanka Radičević and centre-back Andrea Lekić.

ehfCL.com: Will a narrow two-goal advantage be enough for Győri Audi ETO to win the title?

Stanca Božović: If we analyse the first match, it’s obvious that Katarina Bulatović totally underperformed in the first-leg tie, but if she regains her form, then she will be unstoppable. Also, if Budućnost produces a rock-solid defence, then not even the great Győr attackers will stand a chance of scoring.

ehfCL.com: What is the atmosphere like in the famous Morača Sports Centre?

Stanca Božović: The ambience in Veszprém is very nice, but it´s nothing compared with Podgorica`s Arena. Back in the 1990's the Arena was always filled to maximum capacity. There were even people outside who wanted to get in. I´m confident it´ll be a fabulous atmosphere there on Sunday, and a great feast for the sport of handball.

ehfCL.com: What would winning the EHF Women's Champions League trophy mean for the club of Budućnost and the country itself?

Stanca Božović: Montenegro reached independence in May 2006 and since then no handball team was as near to winning a title as Budućnost.

Compared to other countries, Montenegro has a little over 600,000 inhabitants, so it would surely mean a lot for the people there. Great parties and big celebrations would follow the final whistle!
