Election reactions

Monaco saw the election of a new team at the top of European handball on Friday, 22 June, with a new Executive Committee charged with leading the sport in Europe for the next four year period. eurohandball.com got their reactions:

Jean Brihault (FRA), President of the EHF: "This vote means a big responsibility. The more votes you receive the bigger responsibility you feel. But I have to say I was well prepared for this position. We want to make sure the the on-going progress will continue and we also want to promote the position of women in handball."

Arne Elovsson (SWE), Vice President of the EHF: "We are facing a really very interesting and very hard task. As I said in my introduction my dream is to get our sport to the second position of the European ranking behind football. I think in women´s sport the handball could be even the top sport if we could get other countries to the similar level as in Northern Europe."

Ole R. Jørstad (NOR), Chairman of the Beach Handball Commission: "For me personally, the result of this vote means a new challenge. It will be a new and very important position with a position in the Executive Committee. With László in the lead we had two successful years and we will continue with what we started. We have to try to make the product of beach handball even more attractive for media and sponsors and we also aim to get countries like France and many others more involved with this sport."

Leopold Kalin (SLO), Chairman of the Competitions Commission: "I decided to apply for this position after many people from various federations asked me. I´m still in a good age and I think I have a lot to give . We will work on the gap between the men´s and women´s handball, but we are not too far from a 'Final Four' tournament for the EHF Women´s Champions League."

Per Bertelsen (DEN), Member of the EHF Executive: "It is important for me and for the Danish federation, because we haven´t been on this court for many years. We will look in the new direction and we will try to make the Executive Committee stronger. I think it´s the time to pay more attention to the national federations, because without them we have no clubs."

Helga Magnusdottir (ISL), Member of the EHF Executive (pictured above): "After twelve years in the Competition Commission, I have the opportunity to take my ideas and experience and I´m glad I don´t have to stop. We have to equalise the status of women handball. Women are not worse players than men and they are 50 percents of all players."

Predrag Bosković (MNE), the Member of the EHF Executive: "This result is a great reward for me and also a big obligation for us to develop handball to a higher level. I offer my knowledge of the organisation of the club and the national federation. Podgorica is an example of women's handball being popular with a great tradition, but if we work closer together we can try to achieve something similar."
