Filip Jicha stays in Kiel

Filip Jicha and THW Kiel agreed on an early extension of the left back’s contract.

The Czech national player signed a contract until June 2016 with an option on another season.

The Czech has won the VELUX EHF Champions League title twice, in 2010 and 2012.

In the past season, the Czech scored 340 goals for the triple winner THW Kiel.

Klaus Elwardt, manager of THW Kiel is very satisfied: “We had some very good discussions and we agreed quickly.

Filip is a leading figure in our team; he is a role model and one of the best handball players in the world.

This is why we wanted to keep him in the club on a long-term basis.

On top of that, we hope that, with his decision to stay in Kiel, he will attract other world class players."

Filip Jicha joined the THW in 2007 after spending two years with TBV Lemgo.

He became an important part of the THW team very quickly.

Jicha has been awarded World handball player in 2010 and best handball player of the Czech Republic for the fifth time in 2012.

THW Kiel has started their preparation with the traditional “Unser Norden”- golf tournament.

On this occasion, Filip Jicha won the extra competition “longest drive” with a hit of 259m.
