Morten Nergaard returns to Elverum

In the second round of the EHF Cup, Elverum HH can rely on the strong backing of Morten Nergaard in the match against Hungarian side Grundfos Tatabanya KC as the Norwegian national goalkeeper returned to the club at which he started playing handball.

Nergaard had signed a contract with Danish league club Aalborg Håndbold before the current season. His ambitions were high as he and his national teammate Ole Erevik were seen as the new goalkeeper pair in the ambitious club.

However, when Aalborg signed Swedish international Johan Sjöstrand from FC Barcelona, the club suddenly had one international top keeper more than they needed, and Nergaard became the one who had to go and look for another employer – and once his contract with Aalborg had been cancelled, he did not have to wait for long.

Now 25-year-old Nergaard, who has played seven internationals for Norway so far, is back with the club for which he played for all his handball life before going to Denmark - Elverum HH.

Morten Nergaard has signed a one year contract with the EHF Cup participants, after several other clubs in Norway were in the race for his signature.

“It is nice that the interest has been so big, considering the way things turned out. Actually, Elverum was the last club to offer me a contract, as they had to find a financial solution first, but as that became an opportunity, I was really in no doubt,” Nergaard said to Norwegian newspaper Østlendingen.
