Younger Age Category events workshop held by the EHF

National federation's representatives from Austria, Poland, FYR Macedonia, and Portugal gather in Vienna

Younger Age Category events workshop held by the EHF

Organisers of the upcoming Younger Age Category (YAC) events in 2014 and 2015 gathered in Vienna on Wednesday and Thursday (13 and 14 February) for the first EHF preparatory workshop relating to the respective competitions.

Representatives from the national federations of Austria, Poland, FYR Macedonia and Portugal were invited by the EHF to discuss the basis plans for the events.

The federations have been awarded the following final tournaments:

  • 2014 Men's 20 European Championship - Austria
  • 2014 Men's 18 European Championship - Poland
  • 2015 Women's 17 European Championship - FYR Macedonia
  • 2015 Women's 19 European Championship - Portugal

The EHF sees Younger Age Category events as full EHF EURO events that are carried out in a smaller scale but should incorporate standards on a level with the adult events.

To optimise the organisation of these events, the workshop, led by the EHF Competitions Commission members Leopold Kalin (chairman), Carmen Manchado (women's competitions) and Martin Hausleitner (men's competitions) and attended by the four nations, was intended to support the YAC organising committees.

The first part of the workshop was a joint event for all four federations, covering general rules and guidelines.

The focus was on the exchange of ideas and event experiences between the participating federations as all of them have held major handball events in the past or will do so in near future.

Austria hosted the Men's EHF EURO 2010 as well as Men's 18 European Championship in 2012 and shared its experiences from both tournaments in a seperate presentation with the other future hosts.

For Poland the organisation of the Men's 18 final tournament will be a major milestone and a good test on the way to hosting the Men's EHF EURO 2016. The nation also hosts the 2013 Women's 17 European Championship.

FYR Macedonia could bring in their experience from 2008 when they hosted the Women's EHF EURO, while Portugal had the honour of hosting the first Men's European Handball Championship in 1994.

The workshop concluded by individual meetings, where each event was dealt with specifically with the organising nation.
