Torstensson out with broken finger

Krim's Swedish international set to miss up to eight weeks after an injury in their recent Women's EHF Champions League match

Torstensson out with broken finger

RK Krim Mercator will have to make do without their Swedish left back Linnéa Torstensson for the next seven to eight weeks.

29-year-old Torstensson broke a finger, as Krim defeated Zvezda Zvenigorod 27:23 at home in Group 2 of the Women’s EHF Champions League Main Round on Sunday.

“Five or six minutes into the second half my finger got stuck in an opponent’s shirt, and unfortunately this resulted in a broken bone in the finger,” Linnéa Torstensson told the Swedish Handball Federation website.

“The positive aspect of this is that the break seems to be clean, and surgery will probably not be necessary. I have been well taken care of and the doctors have told me that ten days in plaster will be enough.

“After that, the finger will have to rest for about six more weeks,” explained Torstensson who had scored six goals for her Slovenian team in the match, before the injury occurred.

Krim are almost certain of qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition, only a 15 goal defeat in their final game against Oltchim on Sunday, 17 March will knock them out, but will have to play on without Torstensen.

The injury also means that she will be missing the two test matches with the Swedish national team against Iceland on 23 and 24 March.
