Quarter-finals review of the Women´s EHF Cup, first leg

HC Zalau clinched the semi-final berth in the Women´s EHF Cup on Monday as the Romanian club won both matches against Spanish champions from Itxako easily. In other pairing all home teams avoid any setbacks at their own expenses and created a comfortable position before the second leg, which will take place over the next weekend (16/17 March).

HC Zalau (ROU) vs Grupo Asfi Itxako Navarro (ESP) 39:20 (17:10), second leg

Romania´s team stay on the course to the finals exactly like in the previous season. After two convincing victories on the home court over Spanish champions, Zalau reached the semi-final gates and can wait for their opponent now. Their rivals will come out from the match between Astrakhanochka and Metz Handball.

Astrakhanochka (RUS) vs Metz Handball (FRA) 26:19 (13:8)

After the first leg, Astrakhanochka is seven goals closer to the Romanian trip as they beat the consistent French representative in the EHF club competitions. The newest addition in the team of visitors Anastasiya Pidpalova scored her first European goal in a new uniform in front of 3,500 spectators.

FC Midtjylland (DEN) vs HC "Kuban" Krasnodar (RUS) 39:21 (21:9)

Nearly 2,000 spectators in the Ikast Sportcenter saw their side stormed their opponents in the first half. The leaders of the Danish league even managed to increase the gap to a huge final size of 18 goals. Only a miracle in the second leg could save Kuban from the elimination now.

Team Tvis Holstebro (DEN) vs Tertnes Bergen (NOR) 36:29 (19:15)

The all-Danish semi-finals is looming as Holstebro is on the right track to the top four as well. In the Scandinavian derby they confirmed the reputation of the highest scoring team of the competition and they will take a seven goal cushion to Norway next weekend. Kristina Kristiansen led the hosts with nine goals.
