Brand new trophy for a new competition

This season has been a ground-breaking transition for the EHF Cup. With the merging of two strong European Cup competitions, the EHF Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup, the newly formed EHF Cup has had a phenomenal season with high-quality matches and drama.

The first season of this new format will be brought to an end with the first EHF Cup Finals, a four-team final tournament to be played in Nantes on 18 and 19 May, with the champion receiving a brand new trophy.

A 30-year-old artist from Nantes, Jean-Noel Scerri, is responsible for creating the new EHF Cup trophy. After learning his trade at ATAO, he founded his own company "Kolibri Metal Creations." For him, designing this trophy was a challenge that combined contemporary design and handball.

"The creation of the EHF Cup trophy was an opportunity not to be missed; it totally fit with the development prospects of my business.

“As a supporter of handball and a sports fan in general, I wanted to recreate movement and speed in the project.

“After some research, I found videos in slow motion where the motion of ball is broken. With this, I could recreate the gesture, which combines speed and strength. I then applied the rules that I needed for all my creations: Fibonacci spirals for the movement and the golden proportions,” explained Scerri.

Innovation, movement and strength, just the attributed the four teams will need to show over the weekend if they wish to lift the trophy.
