100 reasons to visit the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark - Part 4

We are rapidly approaching the throw-off for the 2014 Men's EHF European Championship in Denmark.

From 12 to 26 January next year 16 European teams will show the very best handball has on offer in their quest for the sport's European throne.

With the event reaching the 100-days-to-go-mark in the first week of October and to whet the fans' appetite, eurohandball.com has started publishing 100 reasons why you should not miss out on this highlight of the 2014 handball calendar.

The reasons will be published in groups of 10 over the coming days and every day one reason will also be published on the event's official Facebook page.

While some are truly sports-based, some have to be read tongue-in-cheek, but overall they will give a picture why the 2014 European Championship is worth a visit.

For anyone who can't wait to be part of the Men's EHF EURO 2014, tickets are just a click away.

Here come reasons 31 to 40 why you should not miss out on the Men's EHF EURO 2014:

Reason 31: To see Jean Brihault, EHF President since summer 2012, handing over the champions’ plate for the first time at a Men’s EHF EURO. At the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia it was Brihault's predecessor, Tor Lian, who handed the trophy to the victorious Danish players.

Reason 32: To watch four of the five nations that have won the Men’s EHF EURO before: Sweden (this time in Group D) won the tournament in 1994 and from 1998 to 2002, Russia triumphed in 1996, France won in 2006 and 2010 and Denmark topped the podium in 2008 and 2012. Only the EHF EURO 2004 champions, Germany, will be missing as they failed to qualify for the first time.

Reason 33: To count the number of Swedish fans as they only have to cross the Öresund bridge to watch their team play in Group D in Copenhagen.

Reason 34: To find out whether Poland are already in a good shape as they will be the home team at the EHF EURO 2016.

Reason 35: To watch, Viktor Szilagyi, the only Austrian player who won all major EHF European Cup competitions: the EHF Champions League with THW Kiel in 2007, and the EHF Cup in 2009 and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 2010 with VfL Gummersbach.

Reason 36: To find the last remaining packs of ‘julebryg’ in a Danish supermarkets.Julebryg is Danish beer specialty which is marketed only around Christmas.

Reason 37: To cross fingers for a husband of a four-time Women's EHF EURO winner: Einar Koren, member of Norwegian men's team, is married to Norwegian international Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth-Koren.

Reason 38: To discover, how Denmark makes their EHF EURO motto 'Heart of Handball' come to life.

Reason 39: To visit the venue at which the Danish women's became EHF EURO champions in 2002: the NRGI Arena in Aarhus.

Reason 40: To see the smile in the kids' faces that accompany the teams onto the court.
