EHF EURO COUNTDOWN: The European Handball Federation’s flagship national team event is just around the corner - and eurohandball.com has been looking for reasons why you must not miss out on it

100 reasons to visit the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark - Part 5

We are rapidly approaching the throw-off for the 2014 Men's EHF European Championship in Denmark.

From 12 to 26 January next year 16 European teams will show the very best handball has on offer in their quest for the sport's European throne.

With the event reaching the 100-days-to-go-mark in the first week of October and to whet the fans' appetite, eurohandball.com has started publishing 100 reasons why you should not miss out on this highlight of the 2014 handball calendar.

The reasons will be published in groups of 10 over the coming days and every day one reason will also be published on the event's official Facebook page.

While some are truly sports-based, some have to be read tongue-in-cheek, but overall they will give a picture why the 2014 European Championship is worth a visit.

For anyone who can't wait to be part of the Men's EHF EURO 2014, tickets are just a click away.

Here come reasons 41 to 50 why you should not miss out on the Men's EHF EURO 2014:

Reason 41: To be part of the first major men’s handball tournament hosted by Denmark after the World Championship in 1978.

Reason 42: To relish the handball skills of the expected large number of 'fresh faces' that are likely to take to the court in Denmark as the Men's EHF EURO 2014 is the first of its kind in the current Olympic cycle.

Reason 43: To find out whether Hungarian Lajos Mocsai (pictured below) can become the second coach in EHF EURO history to win the gold medal with a men’s team after he had already the trophy with a women's team as Mocsai did in 2000 with Hungarian women's team. The only coach to achieve this feat to date is Ulrik Wilbek who won EHF EURO with Denmark's women's team in in 1994 and 1996 and who topped the podium with the men's team in 2008 and 2012.

Reason 44: To see all semi-finalists of the previous Men’s EHF EURO, Denmark, Serbia, Croatia, Spain, taking to the court once again.

Reason 45: To find out if Poland can break their 'EHF EURO spell'. The men's national team has won silver (2007) and bronze (1982 and 2009) at World Championships, but precious metal at an EHF EURO Event has so far eluded them.

Reason 46: To learn the lyrics of the most famous Danish arena song "Vi er röde, vi er hvide!" (We are red, we are white!)

Reason 47: To count the number of tattoos of Icelandic goalkeeper Björgvin Gustavsson or of Norwegian centre back Borge Lund.

Reason 48: To watch the prowess of a Spanish coaching legend's son Valero Rivera on court as Valero Rivera jun. will most likely be part of the Spanish team.

Reason 49: To find the successor of Macedonian Stevche Alushovski. At 39 years and four months he was the oldest field player at the Men’s EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia. Since then he retired from the national team.

Reason 50: To read a fairy tale of famous Danish author and poet Hans Christian Andersen on a non-match day – of course in Danish language.

To read more why you should not miss the EHF EURO, find reasons 1 to 10 here, reasons 11 to 20 here, reasons 21 to 30 here and reasons 31 to 40 here.

Reasons 51 to 60 will be published on Tuesday, 22 October - stay tuned for more.
