EHF EURO COUNTDOWN: The European Handball Federation’s flagship national team event is just around the corner - and eurohandball.com has been looking for reasons why you must not miss out on it

100 reasons to visit the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark - Part 9

We are rapidly approaching the throw-off for the 2014 Men's EHF European Championship in Denmark.

From 12 to 26 January next year 16 European teams will show the very best handball has on offer in their quest for the sport's European throne.

With the event reaching the 100-days-to-go-mark in the first week of October and to whet the fans' appetite, eurohandball.com has started publishing 100 reasons why you should not miss out on this highlight of the 2014 handball calendar.

The reasons will be published in groups of 10 over the coming days and every day one reason will also be published on the event's official Facebook page.

While some are truly sports-based, some have to be read tongue-in-cheek, but overall they will give a picture why the 2014 European Championship is worth a visit.

For anyone who can't wait to be part of the Men's EHF EURO 2014, tickets are just a click away.

Here come reasons 81 to 90 why you should not miss out on the Men's EHF EURO 2014:

Reason 81: To follow the progress of the Austrian team as they made it to an EHF EURO event for the first time by succeeding in the qualification. In 2010 they were directly qualified as hosts of the EHF European Championship.

Reason 82: To watch Vladan Matic at his first tournament as Serbian head coach. After the EHF EURO 2012 silver medallists had dismissed Veselin Vukovic, SG Flensburg-Handewitt's Ljubomir Vranjes took over in an interim role for the final two qualification matches.

After a lengthy search Matic was named as new head coach at the end of October.

Reason 83: To celebrate together with the mascots.

Reason 84: To enjoy the skills of the members of France's 'golden generation' such as Jerome Fernandez who is likely to play his last EHF EURO event.

Reason 85: To count, how often Mc Hammer's "U can’t touch this" will be played whenever Mikkel Hansen (pictured below), nicknamed 'the hammer', scores for Denmark.

Reason 86: To find out if Serbian goalkeeper Darko Stanic will again be invited by the Serbian Minister of Defence to a shooting range to see, who is the real 'Minister of Defence'.

Following his performance at the EHF EURO 2012 on home court Stanic was nicknamed 'Minister of Defence'.

Reason 87: To see 12 European teams taking to the court which were also part of the World Championship 2013 in Spain. These teams are: Denmark, FYR Macedonia, Spain, Iceland, Hungary, Serbia, France, Poland, Russia, Croatia, Montenegro and Belarus.

Reason 88: To listen to the team captains’ voices, announcing the fair play text in their respective language before every match.

Reason 89: To see the only player whose girlfriend was part of the Women’s EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia: Denmark's Henrik Toft Hansen and Sweden's Ulrika Agren are a couple.

Reason 90: To be part of the medal ceremony and to cheer for the newly crowned European champions.
