Teams with glorious past enter EHF Cup

A former EHF Champions League finalist and both finalists from last season's Challenge Cup are to be found among the 32 teams in Round 3 of the Women´s EHF Cup, along with an ambitious new Danish side.

The Russian teams Lada and Dinamo Volgograd have often made them selves known in the EHF Champions League in the past, and Lada even reached the final in 2007. This season both teams are in the EHF Cup, where Lada have the honour of welcoming another team with final experience, as ZRK Samobor are visiting Togliatti Sunday for the first leg of the two teams' internal tie.

Last season, Croatian Samobor reached the final of the Challenge Cup, and now they are chasing similar success in the EHF Cup.

Black Angels fly to Romania

Dinamo Volgograd also have the home advantage this weekend, and that is for both matches, as LC Brühl Handball, who reached the qualification tournament for the EHF Champions League in 2012, are taking the trip from Switzerland to the banks of the river Volga for a double header-against Dinamo.

Last season, HC Zalau reached the semi-finals of the EHF Cup, while DHK Banik Most won the Challenge Cup. Saturday, the Black Angels from the Czech Republic are visiting the Romanian team in Zalau for the first half of a tie that will decide, which one of the successful teams from last season will have to leave European handball at an early stage this season.

New Danish club on the European scene

Danish international such as Søs Søby, Pernille Holst Holmsgaard and Marianne Bonde should guarantee a certain quality by the new Danish side København Håndbold which was formed before this season on the license of the traditional club FIF.

And already in their first appearance in the EHF Cup, the ambitious Copenhagen team might need all the quality they have, as they are facing HC Karpaty who defeated HC Zalgaris Kaunas from Lithuania very clearly in Round 2. The Ukrainians have the home advantage in the first match Saturday afternoon.

Apart from the above mentioned tie between Volgograd and Brühl, four further double headers are taking place this weekend: U Jolidon Cluj (ROM) vs. A. C. PAOK (GRE) Handball Femina Vise (BEL) vs. Cankaya Bel. Anka Spor K. (TUR) Alavarium/Love Tiles (POR) vs. TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER) and Skuru IK (SWE) vs. Helvetia Bm. Alcobendas (ESP)

Four more double headers will follow next weekend.
