Fehérvár and Astrakhan heading for the final

In the first leg of the Women’s EHF Cup Semi-finals Fehérvár took a major step towards the final by winning the first leg of their tie against Danish Team Esbjerg 25:24 in Denmark.

Meanwhile, Astrakhanochka also have a fine position after they comfortably won the first part of their entirely Russian tie against Lada 31:24 at home.

Team Esbjerg (DEN) vs Fehérvár KK (HUN) 24:25 (13:14)

Fehérvár obviously stand with the best chances to proceed to the final after their one goal win in the first leg in the Blue Water Dokken in Esbjerg on Saturday afternoon.

Esbjerg had the far better start to the game and went 6:2 up, but it did not take the visitors long to get into the game and even forge two goals ahead at 12:10 before taking a one-goal lead with them to half-time.

The second half was equal with changing leads, but at the end, the Hungarian team could celebrate a narrow one-goal win with their small group of supporters who had taken the long journey to the far west of Denmark.

“We believed in ourselves as a team for all 60 minutes and we played a really good game, but everything is still open.

Now we know each other, and it is going to be a tough match in Hungary,” Fehérvár´s centre back Eszter Siti told Team Esbjerg´s website.

“We will have to play much better in the second match, but I still believe we can go on,” Esbjerg´s left winger Susanne Kastrup Forsland said.

Astrakhanochka (RUS) vs Lada (RUS) 31:24 (16:11)

It is a fact that a Russian opponent will be waiting for the winner of the tie between Esbjerg and Fehérvár, and after the first leg of the all-Russian tie between Astrakhan and Lada, Astrakhan stand with a very good chance of reaching the final.

In front of 3,500 spectators in the Sportcomplex “Zwedniy”, Astrakhan formed the basis for their clear win already in the first half which the home team lead by five goals, 16:11.

During the second half, the home team managed to increase their lead by two further goals and even despite missing no less than five penalty shots, Astrakhan gave themselves a seven-goal lead ahead of the return match in Togliatti next Sunday.
