Ambitious teams chasing more success

Last season, Balonmano Bera Bera from Spain were in the group matches of the Women’s EHF Champions League. This season, Jomi Salerno failed to reach that very same goal. The two teams meet in Salerno, Italy to decide which team is going to proceed to the Last 16 of the EHF Cup.

The first leg in the Palapalumbo in Salerno is on Friday night, and the return match is on Sunday evening.

ÉRD HC from Hungary, Team Tvis Holstebro from Denmark and Handball Club Lada from Russia are all through to the Last 16 after winning Round 3 double headers last weekend, and on Saturday, the Challenge Cup winners from last season, H 65 from Höör have a very good chance of keeping those three teams company.

Ahead of the away match in Ukraine against HC Karpaty, the Swedish team is leading by nine goals after winning the home game 30:21.

Another Swedish team have a considerably harder task ahead of them. Lugi Lund are taking a four-goal deficit with them to the away game on Sunday afternoon against the Spanish top team Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE, who won 28:24 in Lund on Sunday.

However, Lugi have far from given up on reaching the Last 16 yet. “There is still one match left. For us, it is a question of playing just as well over 60 minutes this time, as we did for the last ten minutes of the first match,” back court player Jenny Carlsson told the Swedish Handball Federation’s website.

While Rocasa Gran Canaria seem to have a good chance to reach the next round, the same can be said about TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen – Werkselfen. The German side will be going to Poland to defend a seven-goal lead against KGHM Metraco Zaglebie Lubin after winning 30:23 at home Sunday.

Despite the clear lead, Leverkusen coach Renate Wolf is warning everyone against being over optimistic ahead of the away game on Sunday evening. “Seven goals are good, but they do not guarantee we go on in the tournament. In Lubin, we must be prepared for a tremendous crowd, and my young players in particular will have to be able to cope with that,” Renate Wolf told her club’s website.
