Veszprem confirm Sliskovic swoop

One of the most promising Croatian players, left back Ivan Sliskovic, has put pen on paper today joining MKB-MVM Veszprem KC on a deal that will keep him at the club until 2019. The transfer will go through in summer 2015.

Sliskovic is the sixth player to join Veszprem from Celje, following the footsteps of Renato Sulic, Mirsad Terzic, Mirko Alilovic, Mate Lekai and Gasper Marguc, who joined the Hungarian powerhouse before him.

“I will always be grateful for everything I have achieved in Celje. I felt great here and really at home. To the team, the coach, the fans, and everyone at the club I would like to say thank you for everything. Of course, I also want to use the remainder of the season with the team to win the domestic title, so I can say goodbye in the best possible way,” commented Sliskovic to the RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko’s official website.

Rumours of the move have been floating around the last few months, as Sliskovic’s performances for his club RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko and Croatian national team at the 2015 World Championship, as well as the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark generated a lot of interest in player’s services.

"After two seasons in Celje I'll make another step forward in career and move to Veszprem. In my opinion, this is one of the top four clubs in the world currently,” said Sliskovic´, who wore the Celje Pivovarna Lasko jersey for the past two seasons.

The Split-born sharpshooter is joining MKB-MVM Veszprem after a three-week stint at Qatari side Al Ahly where he was on loan mid-way through the season.

Sliskovic, who learned his trade at the Croatian RK NEXE, before joining the VELUX EHF Champions League outfit RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko, has been nothing short of outstanding during his two-season long tenure in Slovenia, scoring 91 goals in the VELUX EHF Champions League.

“(As a player of Veszprem) I expect to develop and make progress in my game. In addition, with this team we can fight for the top positions in Europe, which I am looking forward to,” said Sliskovic.

The 24-year old left back will join a roster of high profile backcourt players at Veszprem, with likes of Laszlo Nagy, Momir Ilic, Christian Zeitz, Carlos Ruesga and Chema Rodriguez.

Sliskovic who will join MKB-MVM Veszprem in the summer of 2015, alongside Aron Palmarsson, will take the least amount of time to adapt to life in Hungary with compatriots like Renato Sulic and Mirko Alilovic already in the team.
