Holstebro have one foot in EHF Cup final, Rostov-Don looking strong

Team Tvis Holstebro, who won the Women´s EHF Cup in the 2012/13 season, are practically in the final of the same competition again after a 13-goal win away against Muratpasa Belediye SK.

The Danish team’s opponents in the final may very well be Rostov-Don, who are four goals up after their away game against ÉRD HC.

2,000 spectators saw Holstebro lead by four goals, 18:14, at half-time, but in the second half the visitors increased their lead throughout and could fly home with a 13-goal lead ahead of the return match next Sunday.

“They broke as we went ahead by seven. I must praise our players for being keen and focused all the way, as there was so much noise in the hall that we had trouble communicating,” Holstebro coach Niels Agesen told his club’s website.

Meanwhile, Rostov-Don will take a 28:24 win home with them from Hungary and are close to eliminating HC ÉRD in the battle for the other ticket to the final.

At the beginning of the match in the ERD Arena, it looked as if Rostov-Don were going to decide everything already in the first leg.

The visitors started with a 5:0 lead, but spurred on by the 2,200 spectators the home team got back into the game and brought themselves level at 17:17 shortly after the break.

Towards the end, however, Rostov-Don managed to create another clear lead which puts them in a very favourable position ahead of the return match in Russia on Saturday.
