LAST WEEK IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: A look at what the stars of Europe's top flight are up to in the off-season and their return to pre-season training

The hard work begins

The European season may be over, but there are plenty of stories to keep track of over the summer months. ehfcl.com keeps you in the loop with a weekly overview of the latest news, both serious and light, up until September. Plenty of team teams are now getting their pre-season training underway, but there is the odd exception.

Paris Saint-Germain were the centre of the handball world's attention last week as VELUX EHF FINAL4 MVP Nikola Karabatic made the long-awaited move to the club official on 14 July. Karabatic and his new teammates came together for the first time on Tuesday to begin preparations on what may be their biggest assault on the VELUX EHF Champions League title yet.

Flensburg have already been hard at work for over a week in the gym, on the track, on the court, and even on the sand. The northern German club took part in and won the Åhus Beachhandboll Festival in Sweden.

Their neighbours and fierce rivals at the top of German handball, THW Kiel, have also launched their season. "The Zebras" gave us a look behind the scenes at their teamshoot featuring the likes of new signing Niklas Landin, who will hope to drive the club back to the VELUX EHF FINAL4 for the fifth consecutive year.

#THWKiel #wirsindkiel #thwtrailer #thw2015 #thwmakingof

2013 and 14 Women's EHF Champions League winners Györ suffered a dissapointing season last term and will have to battle through qualification to reach the group matches.

With a number of high-profile names joining the club such as Linn Sulland, Zsuzsanna Tomori, Yvette Broch and Nycke Groot as well as the return of Anita Görbics and Eduarda Amorim, fans of the clubs will be looking way beyond qualification and towards a return to the FINAL4.

After exiting the VELUX EHF Champions League at the Last 16 for the past two seasons, KIF Kolding Kobenhavn are clearly pumped to improve on that campaign this season. The players are pushing it hard in the gym alrerady and goalkeeper Marcus Cleverly is looking impressive.

While the title contenders have made an early start to their season, Victor Tomas and his VELUX EHF Champions League winning FC Barcelona teammates are expected to return to training on 3 August. Even off the court Tomas is making headlines as he and girlfriend Hege Bolstad were featured in a Croatian newspaper on their holidays there.
