Dunaujvarosi and Metzingen one step closer to EHF Cup final

ROUND REVIEW – German and Hungarian teams are closer to advancing to the final of the Women´s EHF Cup after away wins Sunday.

Dunaujvarosi and Metzingen one step closer to EHF Cup final

Tus Metzingen and Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia are closer to advancing to the Women´s EHF Cup final after away victories in the first leg of their semi-final ties Sunday.

TuS Metzingen are in a very good position to qualify for their first European final ever and even in the first season in Europe after winning 26:22 away against ASC Corona 2010 Brasov. However, the current number one in the German Bundesliga actually could have been in an even better position, as they were leading by seven goals several times in the first leg in Dumitru Popescu Colibasi in Brasov.

It did not take Metzingen long to get ahead 10:3 and the visitor held on to their seven goal lead until 15:8, before four successive Brasov goals before half-time to reduce the distance to 15:12. Metzingen moved seven goals up again, but the home team managed to reduce the deficit to only two goals, before Metzingen could double their lead in the last minutes.

“This was by far our most difficult EHF Cup match until now. However, we did extremely well in our defence, as well as in our attack and could finally book a four goal win,” Metzingen manager Ferenc Rott told his club´s website after the win.
Centre back Anna Loerper scored no less 11 goals for Metzingen, while Brasov’s left back Cristian Zamfir scored almost as many at 10.

Donaujvarosi are positioned almost as strongly as Metzingen after their visit to 2010 winners, Denmark’s Randers HK.

In the first leg in the Arena Randers, the Hungarian team got the better of the hosts and took a 29:27 win with them home to Hungary, mainly curtesy to a physically strong defence. Spurred on by a large group of fans who had made the long trip from Hungary, Dunaujvarosi were leading 16:13 at half-time, and for the majority, the visitors were leading by three or four goals before landing a win by two; a result which gives them a clear edge ahead of their home game next Sunday.

Left back Krisztina Tricsuk was the highest scoring player in the match with eight goals. Jane Schumacher, Kathrine Heindahl and Anne Kathrien Danielsen scored five each for Randers.
