MATCH REVIEW: The Hungarian team left no doubt in their home game in the Women's EHF Cup final against TuS Metzingen.

Dunaujvaros take first European title in 18 years

Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia won the last edition of the Women's EHF Cup before the competition merges with the Cup Winners' Cup from next season into a format which is already known from the Men's EHF Cup.

Through a 29:21 win at home against Tus Metzingen in the second leg of the final, the Hungarian side left no doubt, which team was going to lift the trophy.

First leg: 26:28
Aggregate score: 55:49

Metzingen had an ambition of colouring Europe pink, referring to their colours, but that had to leave it at the dream, as they were not even close at keeping their two goal lead from the first leg at home.

In the return match in the Veszprém Arena, it took Dunaujvaros less than a half to catch up with the narrow deficit they were chasing after the match in Germany – and more than this, as the Hungarian team got a clear lead already before the break.

After an equal start with changing lead, the first half belonged to Dunaujvaros.

The home team took the upper hand, as they scored four goals in a row and changed a 7:6 deficit into an 11:7.

This lead was soon extended to 13:8, and the hosts managed to hold on to that five goal lead for the rest of the first 30 minutes.

It did not take Dunaujvaros long after the break to remove the last possible doubt about the final outcome.

Their four goal lead from half time was soon increased to six goals at 21:15, then to eight goals at 26:18, and to nine at 28:19.

At the end, then, Dunaujvaros and the home crowd could celebrate the club's first European title in 18 years.

For the time being, Metzingen will have to be content with having reached the final in their first season in Europe.
