CSM in seventh heaven after return to Romania

It was the most unexpected of triumphs for CSM Bucuresti in the 2015/16 Women’s EHF Champions League. But that did not mean that the Romanian powerhouse was not prepared for an epic celebration during their homecoming.

After their short trip from Budapest to Bucharest, the European queens were having a day of celebrations and recognition ever since they landed on home soil.

After touching down and being congratulated in the official lounge of the Henri Coanda Airport, CSM’s delegation had the chance to present the trophy to their home fans in an open-top bus.

After an hour parade, in which the team soaked the attention, the bus reached the Cotroceni Palace, where CSM was congratulated by Klaus Iohannis, Romania’s president.

CSM’s long day was not over, as the girls presented the trophy again to the fans during the men’s team match against HC Potaissa Turda, in the Romanian national league play-offs. The cheers were huge, with nearly 1.000 fans creating the buzz the team deserved.

"It has been an emotional roller coaster, but in the end we managed to win this title. We experienced desperation, excitement, we were afraid, but we had the strength to pull it off. For me, it is amazing," said Cristina Varzaru, after the right wing won her fourth Women’s EHF Champions League Final.

The title holders will have little time to properly celebrate the victory, as they will go back to training soon before playing against Rapid Bucuresti on Friday, in the Romanian Cup’s quarter-final.

An expected win would see CSM qualify for the Cup’s Final Four, which will be played in Cluj next weekend. As overwhelming favourites, the Romanian powerhouse is set to complete the treble.
