Starting grid for the revamped Women’s EHF Cup confirmed

In the upcoming 2016/17 season 65 teams will have the chance to win the first trophy in the reformed Women’s EHF Cup which has been merged with the Women’s Cup Winners’ Cup following the last season.

According to the competition's playing system and seeding list that was released by the EHF on Tuesday, 42 clubs enter the race in Qualification Round 1 (10/11 – 17/18 September), while another 11 teams are already seeded in Qualification Round 2 (16 + three coming from the EHF Champions League Qualification) played 15/16 and 22/23 October.

The draw for these two rounds will be conducted on 19 July at the EHF Office in Vienna.

Eight more teams will join the competition only in Qualification Round 3 and this list includes also the two “defending champions”, the old EHF Cup’s last winners Dunaujvarosi KKA and the last Cup Winners’ Cup’s trophy holders TTH Holstebro.

Six teams ranked second and third in the EHF Champions League Qualification on 10/11 September will also be added to the directly seeded teams for the third round.

Round 3 takes place on 12/13 and 19/20 November and twelve teams will reach the Women's EHF Cup Group Matches where they join the four fourth-ranked teams of the Women's EHF Champions League Group Matches.

Seeding lists and playing systems have also been released for the Women's Challenge Cup.

Last season's winners Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE will start only in Round 3 together with 27 more teams, while eight teams will launch the competition already in Round 2 (first playing round) on 15/16 and 22/23 October.

The draw for both rounds takes place on 19 July at the EHF Office in Vienna.
