NEWS REPORT: The longest draw of the upcoming season will determine pairings in the first playing rounds of four European club competitions

208 balls to be opened on Tuesday

The first draw of the new European Cup season will take place on Tuesday 19 July at 11:00 hrs at the EHF Office in Vienna as teams in all four competitions - Women's Challenge Cup, Men's Challenge Cup, Women's EHF Cup and Men's EHF Cup will learn their first opponents.

All draws will be completely open with teams from Pot 1 drawn against teams from Pot 2 and there will be no country protection as exactly 208 drawing balls will be pulled out from the pots and opened during the draw.

Additionally, also the hosting right for the Men's EHF EURO 2020 Qualification Phase 1 Group A tournament will be awarded by a draw.

Streaming on Facebook Live and more

The draw marathon will be streamed live on the EHF's official Facebook page and simultanously also on ehfTV youtube. Extensive coverage of the event will also be on offer on other social media channels.

The live ticker will be available on the official website www.eurohandball.com, while the tweets will be posted real-time at the official twitter account @EHF.

Women's Challenge Cup

Last season's winners Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE will start only in Round 3 together with 27 more teams, while eight teams will launch the competition already in Round 2 (first playing round) on 15/16 and 22/23 October.

Men's Challenge Cup

32 teams overall start in the competition and all of them in the third round as there are no matches in Round 1 and 2. The defending champions of ABC/UMinho will take part in the VELUX EHF Champions League Qualification this time around.

Women's EHF Cup

In the upcoming 2016/17 season 65 teams will have the chance to win the first trophy in the reformed Women’s EHF Cup which has been merged with the Women’s Cup Winners’ Cup following the last season.

According to the competition's playing system and seeding list that was released by the EHF on Tuesday, 42 clubs enter the race in Qualification Round 1 (10/11 – 17/18 September), while another 11 teams are already seeded in Qualification Round 2 (16 + three coming from the EHF Champions League Qualification) played 15/16 and 22/23 October.

Men's EHF Cup

The road to a successful title defence for German side Frisch Auf Göppingen in the Men's EHF Cup starts in four months when the competition's third round is played on 19/20 and 26/27 November.

The defending champions are one of 63 teams (including nine teams coming from the VELUX EHF Champions League Qualification) that will vie for the title, according to the EHF's playing system and seeding list for the EHF Cup that has been released on Tuesday.

30 teams have to start at the very beginning in Qualification Round 1 (Playing dates 3/4 and 10/11 September); the fifteen winners will join another 17 teams that have been seeded for Qualification Round 2 (8/9 and 15/16 October). The first two rounds will be drawn on Tuesday.
