No problems for Quintus and Baku

Virto / Quintus and ABU Baku had little trouble qualifying for the Last 16 of the Women’s Challenge Cup when they each hosted their respective double headers this weekend.

Virto / Quintus had the easiest weekend when they welcomed ZRK Mira Prijedor from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Dutch side recorded a decisive 46:19 victory in the first leg on Saturday before winning the game on Sunday by almost as much, with a final score of 44:21.

Daisy Hage had a particularly great weekend, scoring 21 goals for Quintus over the two matches – 12 on Saturday and nine on Sunday.

ABU Baku did not face any problems when they took on Femina Vise from Belgium either. After a 26:16 win on Saturday, the hosts could afford a more modest 24:20 victory the following day.

KHF Shqipona from Kosovo hosted Maccabi Arazim Ramat gan from Israel, winning the first leg 31:30 before losing the return match 28:29, which was still enough for Shqipona to reach the Last 16.

Kram Start Elblag are not in the Last 16 yet, but the Polish team are very close to the next round after they won 28:17 in Austria against UHC Müller Bau Stockerau.

Elblag were leading 13:7 at half-time, and in the second period, the visitors added two further goals to the lead they take with them to the return match at home.

HC Lokomotiva Zagreb are also close to the next round after their visit to CS Madeira. Nine goals from left wing Sara Rodrigues Goncalves were not enough for the Portuguese hosts to prevent Lokomotiva from winning 29:24, putting themselves in an extremely good position before the home game in the Croatian capital.

Challenge Cup 2013/14 winners, H 65 Höörs HK, are well on the way to reaching the next stage this season. The Swedish side won their first match at home against Prosetecnisa Bm Zuazo 31:25 and have every right to hope to proceed after their visit to Spain next weekend.

Left wing Naiara Egozkue Extremado scored 11 goals for the visitors, but even that effort was far from enough for a Spanish win.

Apart from the second legs, next weekend will contain no less than seven double headers to complete the list of teams contesting the Last 16.
