New board established to represent Europe’s handball leagues

Officials of Europe’s men’s leagues gathered in Vienna on Friday, 29 June to attend the first General Assembly of the European Handball Leagues (EHL) on the fringes of the draw for next season’s EHF Champions League competitions.

A total of 28 national leagues attended the event included representatives of top-level leagues as well as emerging nations such as England, Scotland and Ireland.

Also in attendance were the SEHA (South East Handball Association League) and BENE (Benelux) League cross-border leagues.



The main point on the agenda was the election of members to a new European Handball League Board (EHLB), which will represent Europe’s men’s leagues within the EHF structure.

The purpose of the league is to represent the interests and support the development and furtherance of national handball leagues, as well as the continuance of all sanctioned league competitions.e Board

It will nominate two members to sit on the Professional Handball Board, the body representing stakeholders including federations, clubs, leagues and players within the EHF structure.

The results of the election are shown below:

Member 1 (ranking 1-13) Frank Bohmann/GER (Vice-chairman)

Member 2 (ranking 14-27) Nikolas Larsson/SWE (Chairman)

Member 3 (ranked 28-50) Stefano Podini/ITA

Member 4 (any ranking) Patrice Hitz/SUI

Member 5 (any ranking) Alf Mangor Johannessen/NOR

Member 6 (any ranking) Thierry Wagner/LUX

The members elected will serve through to the next EHF Congress scheduled to take place in April 2021 in Luxembourg.
