Europe's next generation of handball hopefuls takes the court

While the memories from the Men’s 20 EHF EURO in Slovenia and the Men’s 20 EHF Championships in Montenegro and FYR Macedonia are still fresh on the minds of many, Europe’s youngest generation of internationals is already entering the starting blocks.

From 9 to 19 August, the Men’s 18 EHF EURO takes place in Varazdin and Koprivnica, Croatia, with 16 teams in action. Only one day later, the Men’s EHF Championships, the EHF’s second-tier competitions on the younger age category level, start in Tbilisi, Georgia, and Tulln, Austria. 12 teams take the court in Tulln, while 11 teams play the EHF Championship in Tbilisi.

Two years ago, France won the Men’s 18 EHF EURO 2016, which was also played in Croatia, but as this is a new generation of players, predictions whether the ‘usual suspects’, i.e. Croatia, France, Denmark, Germany and Slovenia, who have just won the Men’s 20 EHF EURO on home ground in Celje, or an underdog will come out on top on 19 August are hard to make.

Furthermore, there is much more than podium spots to fight for. From the Men’s 18 EHF EURO, the first 11 teams will qualify directly for the Men’s 19 World Championship 2019 in FYR Macedonia. This places additional importance on the cross matches for places 9 to 12 and the 11/12 placement match.

On top, the promotion and relegation between the EHF EURO and the EHF Championship level takes place at these under-18 events. From the Men’s 18 EHF EURO the teams eventually ranked 15th and 16th will get relegated and play the Men’s 18 and Men’s 20 EHF Championships in 2020. At the same time, the respective winners of the Men’s 18 Championships 2018 will get promoted and play the Men’s 20 EHF EURO and the Men’s 18 EHF EURO in 2020.

Hence plenty of exciting matches can be expected, and the good news is that all of the 133 matches in total – 56 at the Men’s 18 EHF EURO, 42 at the Austrian EHF Championship and 35 in Georgia – will be streamed live on ehfTV.

On ehfTV, there will be a dedicated channel for each event, and every match can easily be accessed via this channel or through the live schedule on the landing page.

Furthermore, more than half of all matches played will be available on demand. This applies to all matches of the Men’s 18 EHF EURO and to the cross and placement matches as well as to the finals of the Men’s 18 EHF Championships.
