High hopes for hosts Austria at Men’s 18 EHF Championship

The historic town of Tulln, in Lower Austria, plays host to one of two Men’s 18 EHF Championship events as 12 teams make their competitive international debut on 10-19 August.

All 42 matches at Sporthalle Tulln will be streamed live on ehfTV.com and can also be followed with the EHF Live Ticker.

Playing format

12 teams were drawn into two groups of six teams, with each team playing each other on 10-16 August. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals on 18 August, with the final on Sunday 19 August, while the remaining teams will compete for positions 5 to 12.

Promotion and relegation between the EHF EURO and the EHF Championship level takes place at these under-18 events. The winners of the Men’s 18 Championships will be promoted to the Men’s 20 EHF EURO and the Men’s 18 EHF EURO in 2020.

After finishing third in the EHF Championship two years ago in Lithuania, Austria’s new batch of under 18’s will be hoping to make full use of home advantage.

The hosts can expect tough competition in Group B from the likes of Slovakia, who were relegated from the EHF EURO two years ago, and the Netherlands.

In Group A, Czech Republic will look to bounce back up to the top tier after relegation two years ago, while Turkey will also fancy their chances in a group which also features a debutant at this level, Ireland.

Group A: Czech Republic (CZE), Turkey (TUR), Montenegro (MNE), Ukraine (UKR), Great Britain (GBR), Ireland (IRL)
Group B: Slovakia (SVK), Austria (AUT), Netherlands (NED), Latvia (LAT), Kosovo (KOS), Bulgaria (BUL)
