Cervar announces departure from Zagreb

Ahead of very important VELUX EHF Champions League match against Nantes, HC PPD Zagreb coach Lino Cervar announced at the press conference that he will leave Zagreb at the end of 2018.

“When I took over Zagreb this summer I said that I will devote myself to the club until the end of the year because that is when my national team obligations start. So, I will terminate my cooperation with Zagreb after the last match in this first half of the season,” said Cervar.

The Round 9 match against Nantes will be Cervar’s last in Arena Zagreb, as Zagreb will host Motor Zaporozhye in Varaždin on December 1.

Cervar, who leads the Croatia team as head coach, will devote all his time to the national team – but not only seniors. He will also oversee the young age categories and development of coaches.

“I have to devote all my time to the national team. We need to get ready for the World Championship in Denmark and Germany. After that, I will take over my duties in the Federation regarding coaching.

“We also need to sort out men’s young age categories as we have three World Championships in 2019. That is not an easy job,” concluded Cervar.

After Cervar leaves, Zagreb will be in the hands of assistant coaches Tonci Valcic and Davor Rokavec. It is still unknown whether Zagreb will consider a new coach for the rest of the season.
