Nine things to do when there is no EHF Champions League

No EHF Champions League, no fun? Wrong! A week without games in Europe’s top-flight club competition enabled players to enjoy some time-off and recharge. Or play domestic league and cup matches.

Here are the best social-media postings from last week.

PSG may have qualified for the VELUX EHF Champions League Quarter-finals, they were still on duty this weekend. And the French side won its first trophy of the season, the French League cup, beating Montpellier 31:25 in the final.

Györ appeared in a finals tournament with four teams - though it had nothing to with the DELO WOMEN’S EHF FINAL4 taking place in Budapest in May. This one took place in Debrecen and saw them take the Hungarian Cup. And as Stine Oftedal seems to point out, there might be more yet to come for her and her club.

It was not all about handball though for the Norwegian national team player as Rune Dahmke used the opportunity of a free weekend for THW Kiel to come and visit her in Hungary. And after a couple of years, we still can’t resist such a cuteness overload.

The most famous couple in handball was not the only one to take some time off, though, as Odense wing Jessica Quintino was spotted on a date in Denmark. That was only a few days after posting a video of her awkwardly riding a horse, a sign that there is still some life left outside handball.

Another example of ‘what to do when I am not on the handball court for a weekend’ was displayed by Barça Lassa player Dika Mem. Famous for loving nice cars, he took some time to drive around the south of Spain in a fancy car, and sharing it with the fans on social media.

While Veszprém were preparing for their clash against Pick Szeged, Kentin Mahé tried and succeeded at a very famous challenge, the one that has you throwing the ball into the basket hanging right below the arena ceiling. The French national player then used some Hungarian words - which is a first, as far as we know.

There’s nothing like going back to your home country, even if it’s just for a weekend. HBC Nantes player Eduardo Gurbindo felt like he had to recharge the batteries ahead of the clash with Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the Last 16. He also fed the pigeons in Barcelona, and the birds did seem to like it.

Talking about holidays, Anna Vyakhireva used some time-off in her recovery to fly out. The Rostov-Don player is a famous traveller, having posted pictures of herself in Brussels, Germany and London recently. This time, she chose Georgia and Tbilisi as her destination for the weekend.

And just because we wanted you to see that, we couldn’t turn a blind eye to this post by Vid Kavticnik. The Montpellier player gives you a chance to won his signed jersey if you can correctly identify the person on the picture he has posted here. Good luck!
