Men's and women's flagship national teams events to be awarded by EHF Congress
 

EHF EURO 2016 to be awarded in Monaco

The 11th EHF Congress in Monaco will see the awarding of the 2016 editions of the European federation's flagship senior national team events, the Men's and Women's European Championships.

A decision will be reached by the Congress on which nations wil host the events on the final day of the Congress, Satursday 23 June in the afternoon session from 14.30 hrs.

Results will be tweeted live @EHFMedia and posted the the eurohandball.com website.

The nations bidding for the championships are:

Men's EHF EURO 2016 - 17 to 31 January 2016

Croatia

The national federation of Croatia has applied to host the EHF EURO for the second time in its history after the nation hosted the 2000 edition of the event.

Croatia is planning to use the following venues: Arena Zagreb (Zagreb), Spaladium Arena (Split), City Sports Hall (Varazdin) and Zatika (Porec). Finals would be held in Arena Zareb, which hosted the 2009 World Championship final round.

Croatia will be the joint-host of the Women's EHF EURO 2014, together with Hungary.

Norway

The Norwegian Handball Federation has already hosted a number of major European handball events, including the Men’s EHF EURO 2008 as well as the Women’s EHF EURO 2010, which it co-hosted with Denmark.

Norway is bidding to host the event in the following sports arenas; Trondheim Arena (Trondheim), Stavanger Idrettshall (Stavanger), Gjovik Fjellhall (Gjovik) and Telenor Arena (Oslo). Finals would be held in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, in the Telenor Arena.

Poland

The national federation of Poland has experience in organising Younger Age Category events, having hosted the 1996 Women’s 20 European Championship and the 2002 Men’s 20 European Championship. They are also bidding for the 2014 Men’s 18 Championship.

Should the Polish bid be successful, the federation would use the following venues, Ergo Arena (Gdansk), Spodek (Katowice), Atlas Arena (Lodz), Czyzyny Hall (Krakow) and the Centennial Hall (Wroclaw).

Women’s EHF EURO 2016 - 4 to 18 December 2016

Following the withdrawal of a bid for the organisation of the Women’s EHF EURO 2016 from the Turkish Handball Federation, the remaining bid is from the Swedish Handball Federation.

Sweden

Following the organisation of two EHF European Championships, for men in 2002 and for women in 2006, the Swedish Handball Federation is bidding to once again host the women’s event in 2016.

The Swedes are planning to host the event in Scandinavium (Gothenburg), Mälmo Arena (Mälmo) – venue for the Men’s 2011 World Championship finals - Kristianstad Arena (Kristianstad), Helsingborg Arena (Helsingborg). The Ericsson Globe Arena would be used for the finals.
