EHF confirms European Cup participants for 2014/15 season
The European Handball Federation has released on Tuesday the full overview of teams competing in the 2014/15 season for five different European Cup competitions, the Men's EHF Cup, the Men's Challenge Cup, the Women's EHF Cup, the Women's Cup Winners' Cup and the Women's Challenge Cup.
The first rounds for most of these five European Cup events will be played over the course of September and October this year, but it is already on Tuesday, 22 July 2014 at the draw at the EHF Office in Vienna that the pairings will be determined.
The first qualification round for the Men's EHF Cup will throw off on 6 September with 34 teams competing. HBC Nantes from France, hosts of the first EHF Cup Finals tournament in 2013, have been seeded in Qualification Round 2.
German side Füchse Berlin, hosts of the EHF Cup Finals 2014, will enter the competition in the third qualification round together with Bundesliga rivals HSV Hamburg, winners of the VELUX EHF Champions League in 2013 (download full competition overview). In the draw on 22 July the matches for Qualification Rounds 1 and 2 will be determined.
Pick Szeged, the 2014 EHF Cup winners from Hungary, play in the VELUX EHF Champions League this season.
In the Women's EHF Cup 18 teams enter Round 2 (there are no matches in Round 1 of the competition) starting on 18 October. Defending champions Lada from Russia enter in Round 3, and so do Team Esbjerg, the second placed team in the previous season.
Matches for both rounds will be drawn on 22 July (download full competition overview).
In the Women's Cup Winners Cup there are four teams starting in Round 2 (there are also no matches in Round 1) which throws off on 18 October. The first matches of Round 3, including the previous season's finalists Zvezda Zvenigorod from Russia, will be played on 15 November.
Matches for both Round 2 and Round 3 will be drawn on 22 July in Vienna (download full competition overview).
2014 winners, Viborg HK from Denmark, have qualified for the Women's EHF Champions League this season.
The Men's as well as the Women's Challenge Cup go straight into Round 3 which takes place in November. 30 teams each compete in the men's and the women's event at this stage.
HAC Handball from France, winners of the Challenge Cup in 2012, as first seeded team in this competition received a bye for the third round and start in Round 4 (download full competition overview for the Women's Challenge Cup).
The same holds true for Liberty ABC/Uminho from the Portuguese town of Braga in the Men's Challenge Cup (download full competition overview).
The matches for Round 3 in both competitions will be drawn in Vienna on 22 July.
