Abalo signs for Paris Saint Germain Handball

Luc Abalo, the French international, has signed a four year contract with Paris Handball, France.

Abalo has been a key player for BM Atlético Madrid over the years, appearing in all three editions of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, scoring 183 goals in four VELUX EHF Champions League seasons.

The French right wing has been even more successful on the national team front winning gold in the Olympic Games in 2008 in the IHF World Championship in 2009 and 2011 and in the EHF European Championships in 2006 and 2010.

He has scored 502 goals in 147 appearances for the national side.

Luc Abalo is the eighth signing for Paris Saint Germain Handball for the coming season.

Parisian born, Luc Abalo expressed he wanted to return to France for personal reasons.

Up until this point there have been a lot of rumours surrounding Abalo’s transfer to Paris: “Now that the discussions between Atlético Madrid and Paris Handball have come to an end, I will be able to dedicate myself completely to the club and the coming season and the national team,“ stated the French right winger.

"When a player wants to leave there is no way to hold them back," said Luis Miguel Lopez, managing director of BM Atlético Madrid.

The Spanish club has seen the departure of five players this season and has consequently signed up Xavier Barachet (Chambery Savoie), the Croatian defence specialist Jakov Gojun (Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb), Álvaro Ferrer (Reale Ademar de León) and line player Ángel Romero (Cuatro Rayas Valladolid) to strengthen the squad.

Abalo is now looking forward to the new season: “I am very happy to join the Parisian club and to meet the French spectators at the beginning of the season.”

Luc Abalo is currently preparing for the Olympic Games in London with the French national team.
