Coming up: Champions’ Draw on 24 June

With the European Cup season and the EHF EURO Qualification coming to an end, the European handball community will turn its attention to a spectacular gala event.

Museum Lichtenstein, ViennaThe Champions’ Draw will take place on Wednesday, 24 June 2009 from 18:00hrs in the historic location of the Museum Lichtenstein of Vienna. The occasion will be a celebration of handball – in particular of two competitions, the EHF EURO 2010 and the EHF Champions League.

The grandiose gala evening will be followed at the venue by invited guests including players and coaches, National Federation representatives, club leaders, EHF and EHF Marketing partners, guests of the Austrian Handball Federation and representatives of the political and economic circles of Austria.

Great Handball Gathering

Over 300 people will be watching the main feature of the evening, the three important draw events.

The EHF EURO 2010 Final Tournament will be drawn at 19:00hrs. The last four rounds of the EURO Qualification are coming up now on courts all over Europe. The list of the 16 teams qualifying for the event and striving to reach the Final in Vienna will be finalised on Sunday 21 June. In Museum Lichtenstein they will be allocated into four groups of four to play the preliminary round of the EURO in four cities: Wr, Neustadt, Linz, Graz and Innsbruck.

The draw for the 2009/10 Women’s EHF Champions League group phase will be carried out at 20:15hrs.

The 2009/10 Men’s EHF Champions League season will be played according to a new competition format. The group phase will include 24 teams who will be drawn into 4 groups of 6 at 21:40hrs.

Currently the registration process is going on for the 2009/10 EHF Champions League season and the seedings – teams directly qualifying and those facing a qualification round – will be published on Monday, 15 June 2009.

Celebrate the stars

THW Kiel's Filip JichaThe top scorers of the 2008/09 EHF Champions League will be awarded for their achievement at the gala. The German Grit Jurack playing for Viborg HK and the Czech THW Kiel star Filip Jicha have both completed an excellent season with their clubs which will be recognised by EHF and its long-standing partner adidas in front of the high-profile guests.

Apart from the top scorers, other handball personalities will also be rewarded for their special merits.

In the next season, the two competitions, Men’s EHF EURO and EHF Champions League have the prospect of attracting a cumulative audience over two billion TV viewers from all over the world.

Jurack in the CL FinalMost certainly, the draw for the competitions will also be in the centre of the attention of handball fans. In order to satisfy this interest, the gala and the biggest draw event of the season will be broadcast on TV and online.

The Austrian state channel, ORF, will show a summary of the EHF EURO 2010 Draw during the evening. You can also follow the procedure live at the official website of the event, www.ehf-euro.com.
