Derbies headline weekend's EHF Cup ties

Last season’s Challenge Cup winners H 65 Höörs Handbollsklubb are making strides at a higher level this season, but now the Swedish team await their biggest challenge to date.

Current Danish league leaders and last season’s EHF Cup finalists Team Esbjerg await in this weekend’s Last 16 first leg.

Höör are at home against an Esbjerg team who will have to compensate for the loss of Norwegian national team goalkeeper Kari Aalvik Grimsbo, who has recently signed for Györi Audi ETO KC. The Scandinavian derby will take place at Björkvikshallen on Saturday afternoon.

A Danish team who won the competition back in 2011, Team Tvis Holstebro, face a double-header in Russia this weekend. The Holstebro women will be trying to book a ticket for the quarter-finals when they visit Handball Club Lada in two matches in Togliatti Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The Last 16 also contains an all-German encounter. TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen-Werkselfen are at home for Sunday’s first leg against Bundesliga rivals Buxtehuder SV.

Four teams will be waiting to enter the Last 16 until next weekend, when two ties are carried out as double-headers.

Hungarian ÉRD HC receives Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE from Spain for two matches next Saturday and Sunday, while Issy Paris Hand take on Romanian H.C. Dunarea Braila in France.
