Easy weekend for Nottwil, while Dudelange overcome trouble

SPONO Nottwil cruised through to Round 3 of the Women’s EHF Cup, where Erdi HC from Hungary will be waiting.

In the doubleheader against Bnei Hertzeliya on home court this weekend, only the first half of the first leg remained fairly even, as the Swiss hosts were leading 15:11 at half-time.

The second half became far from equal, though, and Nottwil came out 34:20 on top, which made the second match more or less a formality.

In that match, the Israeli visitors were ran even more over, and this time, Nottwil won no less than 40:19.

Things were much closer in the other double header this weekend in Luxembourg. Feta Epirus Anagennisi Artas from Greece won the first match against HB Dudelange 18:15, and at half-time in the second leg, the tie was on a knife-edge with Dudelange leading narrowly with 8:6.

In the second half, though, the home team managed to set things straight and win 22:15 which was obviously enough for their berth in the next round and a meeting with 2012/13 winners Team Tvis Holstebro.

Having won the first match against HC Gomel at home as clearly as 33:22, Ankara Yenimahalle BSK could travel to Belarus with confidence, and the 25:24 defeat they suffered will not have bothered them much, as they are ready to face Issy Paris Hand in Round 3.

For Banik Most, a 25:25 draw at home against LC Brühl Handball was also enough for a third round ticket and two matches against Russian side Rostov-Don, as the Czech team had already won 27:21 in Switzerland.

While for O.F.N. Ionias, the second leg against Tecton WAT Atzgersdorf was a simple formality. The Greek team had won 34:22 in the away game in Austria, and after adding 38:27 home win to that triumph, they can look forward to meeting Astrakhanochka from Russia.
