EHF Executive meeting announcement

The EHF Executive Committee met in Belgrade, Serbia on Friday, 27 January 2012 ahead of the final weekend of the Men’s EHF EURO 2012.

The Executive dealt with a number of issues, including the upcoming EHF Congress, which will be held in Monaco from 22 and 23 June 2012.

Under this point, the EHF President, Tor Lian, announced that he would not be standing for a further term as President at the election in June.

Tor Lian has been President of the EHF since 2004, previously holding the office of Vice-President, and was one of the founding fathers of the federation back in 1991.

The EHF Executive paid tribute to Tor Lian’s achievements over the past 20 years and particularly his time as President of the federation, which has seen the EHF guide the sport into one of the biggest indoor team sports in Europe.

Following the announcement, Jean Brihault, EHF Vice President, informed the meeting of his intention to stand for election as President in June 2012, following eight years as Vice President of the EHF.

Commenting on his decision not to continue as President, Tor Lian, said: “I have enjoyed 20 splendid years with the EHF, and we have achieved a huge amount in this time.

“I would like to thank the EHF Executive for their kind words, and fully support Jean’s candidature as President, he has been a key figure in the EHF Executive for many years, and I know that he is the right person to lead the EHF.”
