Four more teams clear path for the Last 16
Four more teams are ready to join Tertnes in the Last 16 of the Women’s EHF Cup after double-headers this weekend.
Tertnes were already through, after their opponents in Round 3 withdrew, and so far, they have company from four more teams, while the remaining 27 teams for the Last 16 will be found next weekend.
Siófok KC from Hungery had no problems reaching the next round, as they were receiving Alavarium/Love Tiles from Portugal for two matches Friday and Saturday.
The Hungarian home team won the first leg 40:25, and in the Saturday rematch, the Siófok win was even larger, 39:21.
Astrakhanochkan had an even easier weekend, as they received O.F.N. Ionias from Greece.
The Russian hosts won the first match 42:28 and the second leg as big as 39:15.
Despite the clear win on Saturday, 2,000 spectators still showed up in the Sportcomplex for the second leg the following day.
TuS Metzingen are European debutants, but this fact did not bother the German team, as they had the home advantage in a double-header against ZRK Naisa Nis from Serbia.
Metzingen won the first match 38:29 and the second leg with the enormous digits 50:21.
The double header in the Azoty Arena of Szczecin was considerably tighter than the three other ones.
Pogon Baltica Szczecin were receiving ASC Corona 2010 Brasov from Romania, and after the first leg ended in a 24:24 draw, the Romanian visitors managed to book the ticket for the Last 16 through a 24:20 win in the second match.
Randers HK, who won the competition in 2010, are close to the Last 16, though the Danish team will still have to play the second leg away against Success Schoonmaak/VOC Amsterdam.
After a 36:25 win in the Arena Randers, the team under coach Ryan Zinglersen have set the course straight towards the next round.
One of the handball matches in France, which were played this weekend despite the terrorist attacks in Paris Friday was first leg of the tie between Nantes Loire Atlantique HB and H65 Höör from Sweden.
In front of 5,000 spectators in the Palais des Sports Beaulieu in Nantes, the Swedish visitors went ahead 16:8 in the first half and 18:13 at half-time, but still, the home team managed to win the match by a single goal, 27:26.
Despite the French comeback, Höör coach Niklas Harris was content after the match.
“This result still puts us in a very fine position ahead of the second leg. I am happy that we managed to withstand them, as they really got close. We showed our international experience in that phase,” Niklas Harris told the website of the Swedish Handball Federation.
