In the EHF Cup Final Russian Lada Togliatti have defeated their Romanian counterparts HC Zalau by six goals after a close first half which means that Zalau coach Gheorghe Tadici's team will have a tough time in the return game if his side wants to earn a high-margin victory and win the cup.

After an equal first period, the Russians increased the pace and showed a much stronger performance in the second half that allowed them to build the tight half-time lead to a favorable six goals advantage at the final buzzer. 

Best scorers were Irina Bliznova with eight goals for Lada and Georgina Ciuciulete with nine goals for HC Zalau.
