Launch of logo marks 1,000-days countdown for EHF EURO 2016

With 1.000 days to go until the Men's EHF EURO 2016 throws off in Poland, the nation's handball federation, ZPRP, has launched the official logo for the final tournament which will take place in January 2016.

"It is my great dream that the European Championship will be a success for Poland, both on the organisational as well as on the sporting level," Andrzej Kraśnicki, the federation's President, was quoted on the ZPRP website.

"Before us lies a big challenge and a lot of work. But let us work together to make this tournament unique and a memory that will last forever," he continued.

Marek Góralczyk, the federation's General Secretary, added that a series of handball events will be the prelude to the championship.

In August this year Poland host the Women's 17 EHF EURO 2013 followed by the Men's 18 EHF EURO in 2014.

"The EHF EURO 2016 is another major sporting event that we will host in Poland.

"The 1,000-day countdown is great opportunity for even greater promotion and development of Polish handball.

"From now on the the EHF EURO will be carried out under one logo and motto," said Marcin Herra, the ZPRP's Vice President.

The new logo symbolises the ideas of respect and fair play.

"The entire logo is in the shape of a hand, of course as an association to handball.

"But it also means to touch and shake hands as a gesture symbolising respect for others, respect for opponents, which is so important in the world of sports," said graphics designer, Artur Gosiewski.

"Handball is a very spectacular game, full of speed, dynamism and energy. Therefore we also see a player throwing a ball.

"Of the player's back, one can see wings 'growing', symobolising power, strengths, speed and dynamism."

The logo as well as the countdown can be seen on the event's website that has also been launched.
