The 2008 Uniqa Men’s EHF Champions Trophy started with MKB Veszprém’s clash against HSG Nordhorn.

The first international game of the Veszprém Aréna was followed by an enthusiastic crowd. The home fans could experience how strong team Nordhorn are in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Peric played a key role in the gameIn this phase the teams were close to each other and the goals of Gál on the one side and Glandorf on the other kept the teams to a draw.

However, it was already clear that Veszprém enjoyed a better support by the goalkeeper Peric and that Perez was playing in top form – reminding the fans of the best days of his career.

Veszprém took a three-goal lead for the first time in the 23rd minute and there was no stop after that. With some fastbreak goals the hosts went into the changing room with a comfortable 20-14 lead.

The second half did not bring a major change: Veszprém kept on dominating with the goals equally shared between the players and it was already 29-19 in the 43rd minute.

In the remaining period the home team entertained the fans with quick handball and spectacular goals coming from Vujin, Cozma or Tamás Iváncsik. The final result was 39-30 for the hosts.

Veszprém will play the final tomorrow against the winner of the Kiel vs Ciudad Real game.

Comments from the coaches:

Lajos Mocsai (MKB Veszprém): "Both teams arrived with some fatigue for the game, but the decisive factor was that we prepared from Nordhorn. We are very happy to be in the Final and now we are looking forward to play against any of the other two teams who may come."

Ola Lindgren (HSG Nordhorn): "Veszprém deserved the victory. They have a great team and now also a great sports hall. They are a top team, while we played worse in defence than usual. We have to improve this for the game tomorrow."
